Everything you need to know about knee wraps for powerlifting
Knee wraps are thick, elastic bands (usually 2β3 meters long) made of polyester and rubber, designed to be tightly wrapped around the knees. They're mainly used in equipped powerlifting and high-level raw lifting to enhance squat performance.
Tight knee wraps provide:
Note: Tight wraps are not for everyday training. They're competition tools, not general knee support like sleeves.
Sit or stand with the knee slightly bent (some lifters prefer wrapping while standing).
Begin just below the kneecap, wrapping upward in a spiral or crisscross pattern.
Pull each layer tight β really tight. You want compression and stretch.
Overlap each pass by about half the width of the wrap for maximum effectiveness.
Cover the patella (kneecap) partially or fully depending on your preference.
End above the knee, and tuck the end under the last layer (or use the Wrap Assist tool!).
Follow these steps for perfect tie-offs every time:
Fold the strap of the wrap assist tool in half.
Place the folded strap under your second-last wrap, with the looped end hanging out below.
Complete the second-last wrap, pulling it tight and securing the strap in place.
Finish the final wrap, threading the end through the loop created by the strap.
Pull upward on both the handle and strap end while holding the wrap end. This locks everything in place.
Remove the tool by releasing the strap end and pulling the handle. Your wrap is secured!
When pulling the last wrap under the second-last, make sure the end of the wrap stays exposed for easy removal after your set.
